This morning, as we were going through our normal rituals, my dear five-year-old son reached for the hot branding tool I had plugged in. I am working on holiday gifts this week and wanted to personalize the bamboo cheese trays and coasters for our friends. Bless his little heart! He grabbed it before I even realized he had crossed the kitchen and let out a yelp. The first thing we grabbed was a small aloe vera leaf and some Manuka honey.

Aloe is soothing and healing, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-fungal, pain-relieving, emulsifier, and has an ability to penetrate the skin more effectively than even water. A It soothes ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, and other digestive disorders. Aloe provides recovery from fatigue and aids in muscle function as well as optimal utilization of several vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. It’s alkaline nature helps to soothe the whole body.

Fresh aloe vera leaf and aloe vera juice can be found at your local grocery or health food store. Aloe vera plants are also quite easy to grow and provide another way to get the amazing health benefits of this healing herb year-round.

Use whole Aloe leaves from 3-5 year plant with 3 inch piece off the leaf. Break off and scoop out the clear gel inside. The gel can be blended in water, juice, or smoothies to be taken internally or used externally and applied directly to the skin for quick relief and healing. Alternately, drink 1-2 TSP if juice up to 3 x day.
